Back from the neurologists

The bad news: They're not migraines.

The good news: The doctor knows what it is, and, while not common, it is treatable.
The good news part deux: tickets to see Joe Satriani!!!!! (Thanks, Stultz and Gav!)

Apparently, what I have is chronic paroxysmal hemicrania. It's fairly rare in the US, but has a pretty simple treatment (mmm, new meds!) and isn't life-threatening or anything. To be sure, the doctor ordered some blood tests and I'm going to have an MRI in the next couple of weeks (they've got to call to schedule). So, yeah.

Here's hoping this'll finally take care of things. Woo and ha, I say.

Do not ever scare me like that again. Putting "they're not migraines" after bad news is NOT giving of the good impression. Instant thought "Oh fuck, cancer". But, yay after the initial panick attack for treatability. I'm glad you'll be alright.

yeah, ok, I probably could've worded that better. But seeing as that's almost how my doctor put it ("well, here's the thing - I don't think they're migraines. Here, wait here a minute and let me look something up" were his near-exact words), it seemed appropriate.

Now, if we could just convince my body that new meds are not bad, and everything will be happy again. *grumblemutterstupidbody*

:Hugs: Simple to treat is nice. Simple treatment, is really nice!!! I hope it gets really sorted out.

(I hate MRI's, but most people don't feel 'em, so it's okay :)

hooray! especially for simply treatable. And though what you linked sounds descriptive rather than prescriptive, there's no "may lead to injury or death" mentioned, so I'm very positive right now.

Well good for simply treatable. I've had an MRI and while it's a little claustrophobic, it's really not that bad. Maybe I'll learn about this chronic paroxysmal hemicrania in school this week, since I'm starting the neurology block. I'll let you know what I find out, if so.
