XBox Me

(no subject)

So here I lie in a strange house, with a big black dog snoozing away in the living room, and a furnace with a tendency to simply stop working at night. And getting paid for it - behold, the beauty of house-and-dog sitting.

Unfortunately, the insomnia's kicking in yet again - I had a few days when I first got home where I was actually sleeping, but then my body clock adjusted and the sleep patterns went down the tubes again. According to one random commercial, this is just one of the many symptoms of "General Anxiety Disorder" that I have been experiencing since at least high school. It's a little creepy to flip on the TV and see some aspects of yourself described in a drug ad. Because, of course, there is a chemical solution for it.

Better living through chemistry? Maybe, but I don't think I'm at the point where it's needed just yet. Hopefully, it never will.

Paul and I went to see Lord of the Rings today - I found the experience highly entertaining. Between the oh-so-witty reparte between Paul and me ("Between this scene and the last one? 150 pages - poof!") and the woman on the other side of me practically leaping into her husband's lap during every battle or surprise, the viewing experience was very enjoyable. The movie itself was beautiful - there were a few weak moments, but overall a truly gorgeous spectacle.

Paul and I went to lunch beforehand, "discovering" a new favorite restaurant and encountering some of the more absurdly friendly people in this city (granted, in part this was because the waitress was flirting like mad with Paul - an experience always worth observation) and having a good, long, meandering conversation. He and I have gotten to be fairly close friends since the beginning of the Julia H. saga freshman year - in part because she and I used to be quite close, and in part because I was one of the first people to see him after one of the final ugly incidents of the Relationship: Round One. Apparantly this time around it's much healthier, thank heavens. He's been in love with her for so long - I'm glad he's finally happy with her, and she with him. I just with that all of my knowledge of their relationship didn't come solely from him - that she would actually talk to me once in awhile. But, c'est la vie.

OK, I just used French. I don't speak French. I think it's a sign I should try to get some sleep. Tomorrow morning I walk the dog, then head out to the airport to pick up Bret. I'll be able to see him for more than three days! I'm so excited...I can't wait to see him again.

Let's hear it for love. And let's hear it for the boy...drat. 80's music stuck in my head to sleep by.
